All things went well this weekend with our new equipment deployment. We have successfully deployed 4 new wireless access points and should have the remaining 2 done by the end of the week. We also had a fruitful meeting with Tom Rogers about the future of the project as well as helping in acquiring rooftop access to some of the downtown buildings. With the results from this weekend I am confident that we will be able to cover from 7-points to downtown with no problems.
Thanks,
Deployment Team

We've had some problems with our new photo gallery and had to revert back to our old version. Long and the short of it is that it's back online just in time for some photos from our up coming deployment this weekend (18,19,20th).
Also, We have posted two new sections on the web site (GIVE and BUY). One is for giving donations to help support the project and in return we give a package consisting of web hosting, email, and other benefits. Second we have a section for purchasing your own equipment to help grow the network. We hope that with the progress made this weekend that we can spark the interest of a few more people in the area who want to help with the project.
Thanks,
Florence FreeNet Deployment Team

We have set a date of deployment for July 18-20, 2008 for the 1st phase of our new network design. During this we will install 7 new gateways for the network and replace all other existing nodes with the new mesh access points. We hope to have an area from Garfield Ave to Lelia St covered with free wireless internet.
Don't forget to post feedback in our forum on your experience after the upgrade.
Thanks,
Deployment Team

Our blog, photo gallery, and wiki software have all been upgraded to the lastest and greatest. Also, the new Florence Free Net Forums are online and ready to use. In the forums you will find places to post feedback on your experience with our network as well as request for your area to have coverage. There are also places for you to volunteer your time or donate some cash to help keep this project going. Lastly, there is a place to post about the general Florence area.
Look for more updates and features,
Deployment Team

We are planning many changes to both the coverage area and the services offered via our wireless service. Look forward to added coverage, faster downloads, and a higher level of security/service.
We are making large investments in more wireless access points, backup systems, email, and security systems. Our plan is broken down into 3 key phases: 1) Build out existing wireless in the 7 points shopping area, 2) Add a new tower at the corner of Hawthorne and Kendrick (3 blocks from UNA's campus), 3) Add another new tower along Court Street. We hope to complete Phase 1 of the plan by August 2008, then finish Phase 2 by November 2008, and finally Phase 3 by February 2009.
We are would like to get some feedback from current users as well as enlist the help of local individuals interested in helping further the project. We will be setting up a forum to help with gathering feedback from users. This will be where we announce meetings and setup work days to help with growing the community wireless network.
Thanks,

Installation of the tower is complete. This is a large first step toward our goal of unwiring Downtown Florence. Our next phase of deployment will be to enable mesh networking and add access points to the edge of our coverage area to extend our coverage. Check back for updates, information about equipment that you can purchase to access FlorenceFreeNet, and how local people/businesses can get involved in our project.
Thanks,

We are working with Taxmart to install a 50' free-standing tower and tri-sector antenna array. We hope to have the installation completed by May 1, 2007. Once completed we should be able to cover a large portion of the 7-points and downtown area.
Thanks,
Development Team

We have deployed our first access point in an ongoing project to unwire Florence, Alabama. Hopefully we will have a small testbed of 6 access point deployed to cover a 6 square block area within the next month. Check out the attached picture and look for it around Florence, because where ever you see it there is free wireless internet.
Thanks,
